Billy B Banter:
I’m telling you, there are certain times when you think you have the whole underground music scene figured out. Having handled the UR Pinoy Rock countdown for a little over 4 months now (that’s over 16 top 5’s in case you want to be all anal about it), I had an inkling that the trends in people’s voting preferences could be marginally predicted.
Obviously I was wrong, given that the four-week reign of Miss EULA VALDEZ has officially ended with SYALAM’s BANGUNGOT reaching the top spot.
True, Miss Eula’s BLUE still fell to #3, but given how strongly the EULADDICTS came out to support their idol these past few weeks, this unseating can still be considered an upset.
As surprised and all I am about that, in my opinion, there isn’t much in upsets with having UP DHARMA DOWN’S TAYA, WOLFGANG’S JOHN OF THE CROSS (A UR105.9 exclusive, by the way), and RAZORBACK’s DAAN DAANG DAHILAN at number #5, #4 and #2 respectively.
I mean, these guys have proved their prior prowess in popping up in the charts, anyway.
In any case, I’m personally glad that there is a pretty healthy spread of music reaching the charts. Save for brother bands Razorback and Wolfgang, the only real connection you can draw up between Eula Valdes, Syalam and UP Dharma Down is their facility for songs. As it is, they sound nothing alike.
In the end, all this banter only points to how diversity should be cultivated, and how its immediate product, unpredictability, should be expected.
So go ahead and make things unpredictable, people! Support the songs you love and let’s see how it will all play out in the end.

May 27th, 2008 by syalamworldAfter 2 years of countless gigs, song writing, debating, money borrowing and dreaming, syalaM’s debut album, Tayo, is finally out! The CD contains 10 orginal compositions by the band and the songs are like no other that you can hear on the market today. The songs are the ingredients of 1 part reggae, 1 cup of chill, 1 glass of blues, 1 bowl of psychedelic euphoria and a full shot of soul. It is our tribute to our heroes, the common filipino man and woman. Whether out at the beach, inside your car, or at home, you are definitely going to trip out when you hear this album. PRINTING THE ALBUM
March 14th, 2008 by syalamworldI had to contact FAS for printing and ask for their requirements para sa cd replication ng album namin.. then contact New Sparrow for the in-lay printing..
pero bago ang lahat.. I needed to write a letter of intent to OMB (Optical Media Board) and address it to their chairman edu manzano amd wait til they call me.. which they didnt.. good thing i asked how long does it take nung pinasa ko yung letter nung Mar 10. kase i went to follow up today (Mar 14) and as they said before 5 working days daw normally bago maaprubahan and macategorize yung permit namin..
i got there asking them what happened to my letter and bakit wala pang tumatawag sa phone ko regarding the permit.
and the dude at the licensing section said 5 working days normally yun..
which made me ask him if i submitted my letter last monday it should be exactly 5 working days by now.
ano ng balita kase kailangan namin malaman kung gano katagal at magkano aabutin bago namin maprint and release itong album namin.
the dude stood up and came back with the signed letter of intent na..
then he told me to sort out all these requirements:
REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION & LICENSING:
1.letter of intent
2.notarized application form duly accomplished and signed by the applicant(triplicate copy)
3.4 pieces. latest (2×2) signed photo of the applicant
4.picture of the establishment’s facade with permanent signboard
5.comprehensive location sketch of establishment
6.floor lay-out of the establishment
7.latest ITR with stamp receipt of BIR
8.Certification of NO pending Administrative Case from BIR
9.two (2) pieces proof of billing
10.two (2) pieces official identification (passport, sss, drivers license, gsis id)
11.TCT or lease agreement, if land is not owned by applicant
12.latest financial statement
13.TIN Number of Establishment
14.Special of Attorney
FOR SINGLE PROPRIETORSHIP
1.NBI clearance
2.Bank statements (not more than 15 days)
3.Certificate of business Name from Dept of Trade and Industry
4.Table of Organization and list of officers with addresses
REQUIREMENTS FOR REPLICATION PERMIT
1.License as Local Licensee
2.Duly-filled application form in duplicate copies per title (notarized)
3.Notarized affidavit of undertaking
4.Certified copy of Contract and/or certificate from the source of rights (notarized)
5.Submission of copies of the approved format of finished product(after replication)
6.list of song titles, names of featured recording artists and the title of each work recorded, PARI Certificate(if PARI member)
haha.. i’m seriously not getting the point here.. it’s way too much requirements for me to prove that all our songs are original compositions and that hawak na namin yung copyright nung album just for them to give us the permit to replicate our own album.
i’m currently sorting it out. pero i honestly think kailangan nilang bawasan yung requirements nila.
let’s see how long this whole thing takes..
PEACE
Jamir
